03.11.2019 "Japan Culture Day in Almaty"

On November 3, 2019 from 14.00 to 18.00    the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan jointly with the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kazakhstan-Japan Center for Human Resource Development at the Narxoz University, the Association of Japanese in Kazakhstan with the assistance of the Japan Foundation, the Kazakhstan-Japan Silk Road Association, hold the traditional festival "Japan Culture Day".

"Japan Culture Day in Almaty"-2019The aim of the festival is to strengthen cultural cooperation, develop ties and deepen mutual understanding between Kazakhstan and Japan, as well as familiarize residents and guests of Almaty with traditions and customs, with modern innovative and intellectual achievements of the Land of the Rising Sun.

The event at the museum will allow everyone to participate in fascinating workshops on Japanese art forms, try popular Japanese dishes and plunge into the amazing and distinctive world of Japanese culture under the rhythmic beats of Japanese Taiko drums. This festival is held for 14 years within the walls of the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

According to established tradition, during the festival the secrets of the tea ceremony, the art of calligraphy, ikebana, origami, Furoshiki, board logic games (shogi, go, mahjong), needlework and other elements of Japanese culture, life and arts and crafts will be presented.

A distinctive feature of this year's festival is the traditional Japanese entertaining games for children, which will be held by the spouses of Japanese employees working in Almaty. A team of volunteers will perform the Gorin Ondo dance of the XXXII Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The group of drummers “Ooedodayko”, beloved by Almaty residents, will traditionally become a bright accent of the holiday. At the festival, various Japanese language courses, business courses, tours to Japan, information about the summer children's camp, etc. will be represented.

The event will be decorated with decorative and applied art – embroidery Kogin (kogin) craftswomen from Japan Kuzuzawa Keiko.

The event will be solemnly opened by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Kazakhstan Tatsuhiko KASAI.
