The history of the School of Art and Design, named after A. Kasteyev, dates back to 1981, when it became the first specialised institution of primary art education in Almaty, the Almaty Children’s Art School. Today, the school has two departments: “Fine Arts” and “Technique and Design”, where students aged 5 and above can receive an education.
Over more than 40 years of its existence, the School of Art and Design named after A. Kasteyev has actively participated in more than 100 competition projects, the most significant of which include “Kazakhstan: a New World”, Mitsubishi Asian Children’s Enikki Festa (Asia-Pacific Federation of UNESCO Clubs and Associations), the international festival “The Planet of Art”, and the annual organisation of republican competitions such as Inktober Kasteyev, Drawember Kasteyev, “Nauryz Colours”, and others.
The School of Art and Design named after A. Kasteyev, the first UNESCO club, annually produces young talented artists and future cultural figures. Students at the school are active participants in competitions, including international winners. Each of the works presented at the defence is unique in its own way, rich in colour and execution technique. Students’ projects are developed in various fields: paintings, graphics, sculpture, installation, graphic and architectural design, art objects, etc.
Graduates of the school continue their studies at art colleges and higher educational institutions not only in Almaty, but also abroad, including the United Kingdom, China, Canada, the United States, Japan, Russia, the Czech Republic, and other countries, demonstrating a high admission rate to both Kazakhstan and international universities. Students and teachers of the School of Art and Design named after A. Kasteyev have prepared master classes within the framework of the exhibition, clearly demonstrating the rich creative life within the institution.
In the 2025-2026 academic year, 75 students will graduate from the School of Art and Design named after A. Kasteyev, including 36 students from the Design Department and 39 students from the Fine Arts Department.
More than 100 works by the school’s graduates will be presented at the exhibition.
The exhibition will run from June 27 to July 13, 2026
