On 17 May 2025, the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan will hold its traditional “Museum Night – 2025” event from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., to celebrate the International Day of Museums.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the “Museum night – 2025” event in our country. The Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan first participated in this international event in 2006, followed by all the other museums in the republic.
The 2025 will focus on theme: “Museum – Keeper of History: the role of the museum in modern society”.
The theme reflects on the role of museums in societies undergoing social, technological and environmental change.
This year’s “Museum Night – 2025” event features two main areas:
- «Museum – source of spirituality».
- «Valor and statehood – inseparable».
Following themes will be on focus exhibitions and anniversary events:
- 190th Anniversary of Shokan Ualikhanov;
- The 100th anniversary of Nurgisa Tlendiev’s birth celebrates at UNESCO level.
- In honor of the creative legacy of the outstanding musicologists Akhmet and Gaziza Zhubanov.
A “Museum Parade” is going to take place, with the participation of the memorial museums of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, Manshuk Mametova and Boran Nysanbayev.
The following exhibitions will be organized with the theme «Museum – source of spirituality»:
- An exhibition by the Memorial Museum of Shokan Ualikhanov from Altyn-Emel (Zhetysu region) to celebrate the 190th anniversary of the scientist and ethnographer;
- The anniversary exhibition, “Inspiration Echoes” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the artists M. Kenbayev and H. Nauryzbayev, the 125th anniversary of V.I.Antoshchenko-Olenev, the 120th anniversary of N. Tsivchinsky, the 95th anniversary of E. Sidorkin, and the 85th anniversary of E. Sergebaev.
- A personal exhibition of works by Yulia Proskura, an artist from Atyrau, entitled “Soul of Nomad”, with an excursion led by the author.
- This unique exhibition, drawn from the museum’s collections, is entitled “Hat Zhazyp Tur…” and aims to display traditional forms of written correspondence and compare them with modern means of communication. It presents letters in written in Arabic, Latin and Cyrillic scripts, as well as original and copied letters and documents by Sh.Ualikhanov, A.Kunanbayev, A.Margulan, M.Auezov, S.Mukanov and others. Furthermore, it displays letters from ordinary people to famous individuals. E.Umirzakov, I.Esenberlin and M.Gabdullin. The exhibition supplements with postcards, envelopes, postage stamps, and communication exhibits such as a Morse machine and a typewriter.
- The most colorful exhibition of the evening is the “Pearl of the Funds”, which includes rare and unique exhibits from the museum’s collection that are not included in the permanent exhibition. These exhibits will only be presented on this museum night;
One of the unique events is a classical music concert featuring rare instruments from the State Collection of Unique Bowed Musical Instruments. Visitors would be able to see masterpieces by Guarneri and Stradivarius, as well as other renowned musicians, and hear the magical sound of these instruments.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to view the exhibits at the Memorial House-Museum of Akhmet and Gaziza Zhubanov and the Memorial Museum of Nurgisa Tlendiev.
The evening will also include:
- a book exhibition entitled “Development of the Education System”, prepared by the museum’s scientific library;
- an exhibition and book fair by the Public Foundation “Otbasy Khrestomatiasy”.
As part of International Museum Day, the Cultural Representation of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the Consulate General of Iran in Almaty is presenting an exhibition called “Traditional Culture and Art of Iran”. The audience will have an opportunity to see works of art and Persian calligraphy and get acquainted with the cultural values of the country thanks to the participation of masters who came from Isfahan, Iran (masters Mrs. Nafisa Oruji and Maryam Jaffari, Mr. Hossein Khushbaten).
The “Magic Power of Art” exhibition, displaying the work of Kazakhstani artists and craftspeople, also expected to generate significant interest among guests.
In this evening, the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan in collaboration with the “Happy Place” brand will present a collection of souvenir products and designs based on museum exhibits: postcards, stickers and gift wrapping papers. The program of the evening will be supplemented by restoration master classes, scientific interactive activities, museum quests, games and quizzes for children and teenagers.
