05.07.2018 Photo exhibition "Arkaim - Country of Cities: Space and Images"

On 5 July, 2018 at 14.00 Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan opens the International photo exhibition "Arkaim - Country of Cities: Space and Images", timed to the 30th anniversary of the opening of this world-famous archeological monument of the Bronze Age and the 45th anniversary of the beginning of the research of a unique cultural- historical complex "Sintashta".

"Arkaim - Country of Cities: Space and Images"Arkaim is a fragment of the most ancient civilizations of mankind, a fortified settlement of the Bronze Age, located in the south of the Chelyabinsk region of the Russian Federation. It can rightfully be considered as one of the most significant, widely known in the world archaeological sites of cultural heritage. Excavations and studies are still conducting, in which outstanding scientists from many countries took part.

This unique reserve has become the basis for many studies and discoveries, the main of which is a large archaeological complex of the Country of Cities. On 17 June, 1987 the first excavation from which the investigation of Arkaim began was carried out. Its discovery marked the beginning of a large-scale study of a new culture - Sintashta-Arkaim. Monuments of this circle refer to the III-II millennium BC, and the Sintashta era - the time of the great ancient steppe societies.

The photo exhibition demonstrates many interesting facts about house-building, ancient workshops, a large collection of ceramics, bone and stone products, metal tools, funeral ceremonies and sacrifices, objects of everyday life and armament, behind which, of course, there were real people - priests, poets, philosophers, soldiers, masters, who made an outstanding breakthrough in civilization. These civilizational achievements later, perhaps, were picked up by the ancient Greeks and brought to the modern world culture.

The exhibition is of great interest for specialists - scientists, archaeologists, historians, as well as for the general public, not indifferent to the history of mankind. Arkaim is not only an archaeological, architectural, historical monument, but also an open-air museum, which acquaints with the "Aryan complex" - the result of searching archaeologists from many countries for more than one hundred and fifty years.

On the stands of the photo exhibition are displayed: the geographical location of the monuments of the "Country of Cities"; materials for deciphering aerial photographs in fortified and unfortified settlements; photographs of archaeological excavations of different time period, as well as author's photographs of wildlife and the modern steppe state of fourteen (out of more than twenty) fortified settlements. Visitors to the photo exhibition will be able to get acquainted with the cultural phenomenon of the Southern Urals and Indo-European civilization.

At the opening of the photo exhibition will perform: a member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and corresponding member of International Academy of sciences "Ararat" Zhuravleva Irina and corresponding member of International Academy of Sciences "Ararat" Yuri Zuikov. A 30-minute documentary "Arkaim. Cultural and spiritual space in the Southern Urals" (scientific consultant - professor and archaeologist G.B. Zdanovich) will be demonstrated.

In 2017-2018 the exhibition was shown in 11 cities of Russia: Kumertau, Ufa, Samara, Omsk, Biysk, Novosibirsk, Barnaul, St. Petersburg, Belgorod, Kazan and in the village of Golovchino.

To this day the city of Arkaim surprises, delights, amazes, raise controversy and doubts, but so far it has more questions than answers.

The exhibition will last until 31 July, 2018.

Thematic photos and stands of the fourth block - "Water" will answer the questions: how much water there is in the world; how to improve the quality of water; how to use water resources; how to apply new technologies; how to prevent water pollution?

In addition to the information material for visitors interesting interactive educational programs (blitz-surveys, quizzes, master classes, experiments, online games, videos) that encourage everyone to think about their attitude to the environment and learn how to help preserve it are developed. Moreover, those who wish have an opportunity to learn how to lie own mini-garden or why water and oil do not mix; measure CO2 emissions, to determine own eco-type or generate electricity using a windmill!

The exhibition is of special interest not only for those who deal with environmental problems, but also for people who are not indifferent to the problems of the environment, as well as for those who study German, because the exhibition is presented in three languages: German, Kazakh and Russian.

Everyone who visits the exhibition should understand what contribution can make to the cause of environmental protection.
