14.06.2024 The exhibition “Islamic Spirituality”

Republic of Kazakhstan opens the exhibition “Islamic Spirituality”, dedicated to the celebration of the great Muslim holiday Kurban Ait on June 14, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.

afisha islamIslam arose on the Arabian Peninsula in the 7th century AD, which to this day, as the last religion on Earth, makes a significant contribution to the development and improvement of the spiritual life, culture, and development of civilization of all mankind. For a long time, Islam spread to the territories adjacent to the Arab countries of the Near and Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia, up to the Caucasus and the Volga region. Islam and the Arabic language, thanks to the Koran, for thousands of years had a huge influence on numerous peoples who converted to Islam, including the Kazakhs, on their beliefs, politics, culture, linguistic and social relations.

Currently, the relics of Islamic culture stored in the funds of the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan are mainly rare manuscripts and unique publications in Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Chagatai, Tatar, Uzbek, and Kazakh languages.

By content, the exhibits presented at the exhibition can be grouped into the following sections: Korans, tafsirs (its interpretations), books of Muhammadiyah and Mukhtasar, various lithographic publications of religious content.

Here it is worth especially noting the handwritten relic of unique value presented to the audience for the first time - the genealogy of the prophets, made in the form of a scroll (length - 4 m. 45 cm, width - 25 cm). The manuscript contains the genealogy of 25 dynasties of prophets, starting with Adam and including Muhammad, the four righteous caliphs and the medieval Sufi teacher Jalaluddin Rumi.

Also, you can get acquainted with the original version of the Koran, written in the form of a scroll (length - 9 m. 50 cm., width - 2.5 cm.) at this exhibition. The text of 114 suras is written separately in very small letters. At the beginning of the manuscript, four beautiful names of Allah are given.

Among the significant exhibits on the topic of the above-mentioned exhibition, special mention should be made of the manuscript of the Holy Quran, rewritten in 1643. In addition, the exhibition displays, as a valuable heritage of Islam, the Qurans, and books of various religious contents, printed in the printing houses of the ancient cities of the East - Istanbul, Bombay and Egypt, as well as in such large centers as St. Petersburg, Kazan, Orenburg, Tashkent and Samarkand.

Tafsirs (comments) to the Holy Qur'an, a collection of prayers, a brief historical review publication covering the period from Adam to the 19th century, the book of Muhammadiyah, obtained from the library of the famous Mashkhur Zhusup Kopeyev, “Genealogy of the Khoja Family”, written by Mukhamedzhan Seralin, reveal the expositional significance of the exhibition.

The above exhibits demonstrate the peculiar traditional features and functions of the Islamic religion among the Kazakh people. The exhibition offered to visitors will be displayed on the central platform of the 3rd exhibition hall.

Kasteyev, 110th anniversary of K. Khodzhikov, 100th anniversary of N. Nurmukhammedov, U. Azhiyev and 95th anniversary of G. Ismailova.

afisha-mastera-kistiThe purpose of the exhibition: to popularize the creative heritage of artists who stood at the origins of the formation of the Kazakhstan school of fine arts and made their invaluable contribution to the development of various areas of national art.

The name of the People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR, the founder of Kazakh fine art - Abylkhan Kasteyev occupies a special place in the development of culture and art of Kazakhstan. Throughout his life, the “self-taught artist,” as he called himself, devoted his multifaceted talent to his favorite work - painting, leaving behind a rich creative heritage. Of great interest to visitors to the exhibition will be the master’s watercolor works exhibited for the first time from the museum’s collections, the main part of which is characterized by a wide genre originality and thematic range with the presentation of important ethnographic material. Most of the work was carried out during historical and ethnographic expeditions of 1947-1949, organized under the leadership of A.M. Zhirenchina – director of the Central State Museum of Kazakhstan, where A. Kasteyev participated as a photographer and artist. Many sketches made during expeditions to the regions of Kazakhstan formed the basis for the subjects of both paintings and watercolors of the artist. A. Kasteyev, born and raised in a Kazakh village at the beginning of the twentieth century, was undoubtedly an expert in Kazakh customs and traditions, i.e. “ethnophor” - a person whose image, according to the famous ethnographer, Professor V.V. Pimenov, who proposed this term, “fully corresponded to the typical criteria of identity” with his ethnic group. A. Kasteyev’s watercolors, for all their documentary nature, have a special charm, captivate the viewer, turn him into a kind of accomplice in events and have a huge emotional impact on the viewer.

The exhibition also presents works by other anniversary artists who developed various genres of fine art, such as Nagim-Bek Nurmukhammedov, who determined the development of Kazakh realism and impressionism with his work; Kulakhmet Khodzhikov, who made a significant contribution to the evolution of artistic graphics; unsurpassed master of watercolor painting - Uki Azhiev; Gulfairuz Ismailova is the author of extraordinary sketches for the sets and costumes of famous productions in Kazakhstan. Each of them is a separate world of creativity, which reflects the characteristics of their unsurpassed genius.

The exhibition “Master and Brush” will allow you to immerse yourself in the world of art and creativity of the masters of the Kazakh artistic heritage. The biographical context of their creative and social activities will be emphasized by photo-documentary materials (photos, diplomas, certificates, etc.).
